The Montreal Canadiens' struggles continue.

The Habs have now lost five consecutive games. Last night, the Habs fell short to the Lightning by a score of 2-1. Unlike other recent losses, the Canadiens effort level was okay. The Canadiens were not dominated by the Lightning, but that's not saying much. Yes, the Habs are riddled with injuries. Among those missing from the lineup were Markov, Gionta, Moen, Darche and Blunden.

Unfortunately for the Habs, that was no excuse against a Lightning team battling it's own injury problems. On defense, Tampa was missing Ohlund, Hedman and. Lecavalier and Thompson were out at forward. Add to that the recently traded Dominic Moore and Steve and it was a very winnable game for the Canadiens on paper.

The loss sees the Canadiens sit in last place in the Eastern Conference with only 58 points through 64 games. The Canadiens returned home after the game. Coach Cunneyworth cancelled practice. As a matter of fact, the team hasn't had a practice since this past Saturday. With so many players hurting, the coach decided to give his players some time off to rest and recuperate.

The team did hit the ice for a few minutes, however. Today was team picture day. After such a disappointing season, the big question is how many of the players will be missing from the team picture next season.
