MONTREAL - Milan Hejduk scored the shootout winner and David Jones had a pair of goals as the Colorado Avalanche beat Montreal 6-5 Saturday, denying Canadiens goaltender Carey Price his 100th career win.
Chuck Kobasew, Paul Stastny and Kyle Quincey also scored for Colorado (4-1-0). Semyon Varlamov stopped 38 shots for his third win.
Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec, Travis Moen, Brian Gionta and David Desharnais replied for Montreal (1-2-1). Price made 25 saves in suffering his third loss of the season.
Kobasew opened the scoring at the 4:51 mark of the first, converting a pass from Jones in the faceoff circle on Colorado's second shot of the night.
Pacioretty replied at 10:31 with his second goal of the season. Varlamov saved a shot from the blue-line but the rebound went to Pacioretty, who beat the Avalanche netminder on his second attempt.
The Canadiens' power play gave them the lead early in the second. Benefitting from a 40-second five-on-three, Plekanec ripped a shot from the blue-line past Varlamov at 1:35.
