The Montreal Alouettes have signed non-import kicker Brody McKnight, the team's first-round (eighth overall) selection in last year's CFL draft, to a two-year contract.

McKnight played four seasons with the University of Montana Grizzlies in the NCAA before landing at the New York Jets mini-camp this spring after signing as a free agent. The 22-year-old later attended the Arizona Cardinals' rookie mini-camp in May on a tryout basis.

The Vancouver, BC native successfully connected on 21 of his 28 field goal attempts during his final year at Montana, good for 75%, including one from 51 yards.

"We welcome Brody to our organization today," said General Manager Jim Popp. "He obviously has some catching up to do, but we will get him up to speed and let him work on his skill set during practice. He has a great amount of talent to work with and we are happy he has decided to join our team."

The Alouettes' newest member will join his teammates starting tomorrow on the practice field as the Alouettes prepare to face the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday night.
