HAMILTON, Ont. -- The Hamilton Bulldogs have extended their affiliation with the Montreal Canadiens for three years, the American Hockey League club announced Friday.

The Bulldogs also inked a deal with Global Spectrum to remain the primary tenant at Copps Coliseum for another three years.

There had been speculation the Canadiens would move their AHL team to a new arena in Laval, Que.

"This is an exciting day for the Bulldogs, the Canadiens and the City of Hamilton," Bulldogs owner and chairman Michael Andlauer said in a statement. "We are very fortunate to be affiliated with the most storied franchise in our sport, the Montreal Canadiens, and I would like to thank (Habs president) Geoff Molson for his continued support."

The Bulldogs have been the primary tenant at Copps Coliseum since the 1996-97 season. They have been Montreal's affiliate since 2002-03.

The Bulldogs won a Calder Cup in 2007.
