MONTREAL -- Former NHL forward Stephan Lebeau has been named assistant coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Lebeau joins head coach Sylvain Lefebvre and assistant Donald Dufresne on the staff of the Montreal Canadiens top farm team.

"Stephan has a wealth of knowledge as a hockey coach," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement. "His experience and ability to work with young players are a tremendous asset for our organization."

Lebeau was head coach and hockey co-ordinator at Bishop's College School in Lennoxville, Que., for the last five years. He coached the midget AAA team in Magog, Que., from 2006 to 2008 and coached Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2004 to 2006.

He played eight seasons with the Canadiens, winning a Stanley Cup in 1993.

In his one season as a player in the AHL in 1988-89, Lebeau was named MVP and top rookie and won the scoring title with 70 goals and 64 assists.
