With the Montreal Alouettes struggling to find their offensive game, the sight of quarterback Anthony Calvillo shaking his hand in pain at Wednesday's practice raised some eyebrows.

Calvillo temporarily stopped practicing after re-injuring his right hand following a rare sack at practice. The veteran remained on the field but didn't throw another pass.

"Part of football is playing with pain," Calvillo told the Montreal Gazette. "The biggest thing is I've got to make sure I'm able to grip the ball. That's why I stopped practicing. I couldn't grip it and my thumb was weak."

Calvillo injured the thumb in the season opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last month. He was sacked four times in the contest but still completed 20-of-35 pass attempts for the Als' only win this season.

"It has been sore since then and, today, I hit it again," he said. "It was more precaution to give it a rest."

Calvillo has 590 passing yards through three weeks this season. Last season at this time, the 40-year-old was over 900 yards.

The Alouettes visit Calgary for a rematch with the Stampeders Saturday night (TSN and TSN Moblie TV at 7pm/4pm), the final meeting of season between the two teams, but Calvillo isn't concerned.

"I don't think (the game's) a concern," he told the Gazette. "It's just more sore."
