Oakland, CA - The San Diego Padres announced Wednesday that outfielder Wil Myers will undergo surgery to remove a bone spur in his left wrist and is expected to miss eight weeks.

The 24-year-old former Rookie of the Year, who was a key part of San Diego's offseason makeover, has only played in 35 games this season. He missed a month of action because of his wrist before returning for three games in June and experiencing renewed soreness.

Myers was acquired in an offseason three-team, 11-player trade involving San Diego, Tampa Bay and Washington. He was batting .277 with a .327 on-base percentage, five home runs and 19 RBI.

In 2014 with the Rays, Myers missed nearly three months with a stress fracture in his right wrist.
