Philadelphia, PA - The Washington Nationals will once again be without the services of third baseman Anthony Rendon for an extended period, with the 2014 Silver Slugger winner landing on the 15-day disabled Friday due to a left quadriceps strain.

Rendon, who finished fifth in voting for last year's National League Most Valuable Player Award, sat out Thursday's game against Atlanta with the injury. The 25-year-old missed the first two months of this season with a knee sprain suffered in spring training.

Since returning to action on June 4, Rendon has batted .290 with five RBI and a .375 on-base percentage in 18 games. He went 6-for-8 in the first two games of the Atlanta series prior to missing the final.

Infielder Emmanuel Burriss had his contract selected from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the roster spot.

Burriss, a Washington native who last played in the majors with San Francisco in 2012, was hitting .278 with three home runs, five triples, 21 RBI and 10 stolen bases with the Chiefs.

The 30-year-old owns a career .243 average with 40 steals over 282 major league games, all with the Giants.
