Portland Trail Blazers

Team Page | Roster | Stats

Regular Season Record: 54-28
Head-to-Head Record: 1-2
Last NBA Championship: 1977
Last NBA Finals Appearance: 1992
Last Postseason Appearance: 2003
A reason to cheer for the Trail Blazers: The Blazers have seen a resurgence as of late. Big man Greg Oden finally made his debut with Portland this season, the team clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2003, and also finished above .500 for the first since that year. For fans of a team that made the playoffs for 21 straight seasons between 1983 and 2003, this resurgent 2008-09 campaign is giving them something to get excited about again. Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge are consistent, high-energy players who can carry the team to victory on any given night. The Blazers are young and they have depth, but time will tell if their lack of playoff experience will factor in, or whether they are in fact prepared for the accelerated pace the game is about to take on.

Players to Watch: Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Travis Outlaw, Greg Oden

Houston Rockets

Team Page | Roster | Stats

Regular Season Record: 53-29
Head-to-Head Record: 2-1
Last NBA Championship: 1995
Last NBA Finals Appearance: 1995
Last Postseason Appearance: 2008

A reason to cheer for the Rockets: Is this the year Houston finally breaks through? The Rockets have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs in 13 seasons, since they lost the Western Conference finals to Utah in 1997. The Rockets are physical, they possess a balanced offence, a solid defence and their rebounding is excellent. If they can get over the mental obstacle presented by their lack of playoff success, the level of their game and their ability to control the pace of the action could take them deep into the post-season. The key will be for the Rockets to consciously zone out the ghosts of playoff failures of the past in order to avoid adding the '08-'09 squad to that list of underachieving teams.

Players to Watch: Yao Ming, Ron Artest, Luis Scola
