Wiggins went to Vaughan Secondary School north of Toronto for two years before transferring to Huntington Prep School in West Virginia in 2011. At Kansas, Wiggins was named a Top 25 finalist for the John R. Wooden Men's Player of the Year award and he was also named one of the semifinalists for Naismith College Player of the Year.
