Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dwyane Wade hit only one field goal in the second half, but it was his step-back three-pointer with 0.1 seconds left that lifted Miami to an 81-80 win over the Nets and kept New Jersey winless on the season.
Wade finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals for the Heat, who have won four of five overall. Udonis Haslem led the team with 28 points and 12 rebounds on 12-of-20 shooting, while Quentin Richardson added 13 points in the victory.
Brook Lopez and Trenton Hassell each had 17 points for the Nets, who fell to a franchise-worst 0-10 this season after playing with just eight people. Chris Douglas-Roberts added 16 points, while Sean Williams contributed 12 in a losing effort. Rafer Alston had 10 for New Jersey.
Miami held a one-point lead entering the fourth, but a 10-4 run by the Nets gave New Jersey a 69-65 lead with five minutes left after a Douglas-Roberts jumper.
Haslem's two free throws and subsequent dunk tied the game with 3 1/2 minutes left, and the game was tied, 73-73, with two minutes left following a pair of free throws from Haslem.
Alston responded with a three-pointer for New Jersey, and the Nets had a 78-75 lead with 42 seconds left after Williams drilled a long jumper.
On the next Miami possession, Richardson launched a three-pointer off the glass with a hand in his face to tie the game with 25.4 seconds on the clock.
Alston drove to the hoop on the next New Jersey touch, floating a shot toward the basket. While the ball was seemingly on the cylinder, Lopez tipped it in with 4.1 seconds left for an 80-78 advantage.
Coming out of a timeout, Wade lost the dribble momentarily, regained possession, stepped back and drilled a three-pointer -- his first field goal of the second half -- with 0.1 seconds left for an 81-80 edge.
New Jersey couldn't get a tip-in at the last moment.
Hassell and Lopez both scored six points in the opening quarter, and the Nets held a slim 19-17 lead heading to the second.
Wade and Haslem totaled 16 and 10 points, respectively, in the first half for Miami, which battled to take a 40-38 advantage at halftime.
The game remained close and was tied, 51-51, midway through the third quarter. Consecutive baskets from Joel Anthony and Haslem gave the Heat a four-point edge, and Wade's free throw with two minutes left made it a five-point game.
The Nets cut their deficit to one, 58-57, heading to the fourth, though, after two baskets from Williams to end the third.
