New York, NY (Sports Network) - Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and Denver Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups were named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending January 24.
James paced the Cavaliers to a 3-0 week while leading the league in scoring (34.0 ppg) and ranking second in assists (10.7 apg). James, who recorded a pair of double-doubles this week, was the leading scorer in every game.
The Nuggets registered their second straight 3-0 week thanks to Billups chipping in 25.7 points and 7.7 assists. Billups also led the Western Conference in three-point shooting (.591). On January 20 at Golden State, the veteran guard tied his career high with 37 points while adding eight rebounds and eight assists in a 123-118 victory.
Other nominees for the award were Atlanta's Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson, Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant, Memphis' Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph, Miami's Dwyane Wade, Milwaukee's Andrew Bogut, Orlando's Dwight Howard and Toronto's Chris Bosh.
