Portland, OR (Sports Network) - The Portland Trail Blazers have traded the draft rights to forward Tanguy Ngombo to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for a future second-round selection.
Ngombo, a native of Congo, was taken by Dallas with the 57th overall pick in Thursday's draft. The Blazers got his draft rights as part of the trade that sent guard Rudy Fernandez to the Dallas Mavericks.
The trade of Ngombo was being held up for days because of an apparent age discrepancy. Reports surfaced over the weekend that Ngombo lied about his age and is 26 years old instead of 21. An NBA rule stipulates that once an international player reaches 22 he can't be drafted and must be signed as a free agent.
