Looking at the fantasy hoops waiver wire this week, there is value to be found among both young and old.

Let's start with the young, and a Canadian, to boot:

Tristan Thompson, PF, Cleveland - The fourth overall pick in the 2011 draft, Thompson was only decent as a rookie, so he's looking for bigger and better things in his second season and, fortunately, the Cavaliers are giving him plenty of opportunity to show his stuff. Playing 31.6 minutes per game this season, Thompson isn't a focal point for the Cavs, but in his last four games has a respectable 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, shooting 54.5% from the field.

Al-Farouq Aminu, SF, New Orleans - The 22-year-old out of Wake Forest could be coming into his own in his third NBA season. Aminu is an athletic wing getting a chance to play for the Hornets. With more than 32.8 minutes per game, Aminu has a solid 13.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, but he adds to his value with 2.0 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. With a safe 50.7% field goal percentage, Aminu is a solid depth addition in many leagues.

Chandler Parsons, SF, Houston - While Jeremy Lin and James Harden drive to the rim, there is are openings for perimeter shooters like Parsons, who has jacked up 54 shots in his last four games, including 28 from beyond the arc. In addition to his 2.1 three-pointers per game, Parsons adds 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He might be landlocked, with no blocks in eight games, but he provides 1.0 steal per game too, so there's a decent amount of versatility from the second-year forward.

Luke Ridnour, PG, Minnesota - Handling the point for the T-Wolves while Ricky Rubio is out, Ridnour has been an effective player for the last several years, not least of all because he hits 1.3 threes per game, averaging 11.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, with a career-high 1.9 steals per game.

Jason Kidd, G, New York - Points have never been J-Kidd's strong suit, even in his best days, but especially now that he's 39 and playing a career-low 24.5 minutes per game. Even so, Kidd still adds value as a specialist, with 2.2 steals and 1.8 three-pointers per game.
