Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment announced on Thursday that Tim Leiweke is stepping down from his post as president and CEO.

That said, he has done a terrific job with the Toronto Raptors in his short stint.

If you're a Raptors fan, you're sorry to hear the news that he won't be here long term. His passion and love for the sport are evident to anyone who meets him and he's been a significant creator of a new vision.

Leiweke does things first class - with winning as the ultimate goal. He's a creator of circumstance rather than a creature of it.

And I like that.

The Toronto Raptors organization had amazing potential and underperformed before his arrival - and that's not acceptable any more. The goal for this team is to be a first-tier, top-notch franchise in the NBA landscape and Tim's belief that you don't take a back seat to anyone is something that will help carry the Raptors to where they belong.

He's a leader - not a politician. He gets it. And I found that refreshing.

Pro Sports is a tough business and his willingness to push and challenge will show folks the proper path in the years to come.
