New York Knicks guard Ronnie Brewer will be out six weeks following surgery to repair a torn meniscus according Howard Beck of the New York Times.

Brewer's injury is another blow to the Knicks' depleted perimeter defence that will also be missing Iman Shumpert (knee) to open the season.

Brewer signed a one-year deal with the Knicks this off-season after spending the last two seasons in Chicago. He averaged 6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game for the Bulls last year.

With both Brewer and Shumpert out recovering, J.R. Smith will likely be relied on heavily during the opening weeks of the season.
