PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns picked up the 2013-14 contract option for power forward Markieff Morris on Thursday.

The 6-foot-10 Morris, the 13th player chosen in the 2011 draft, averaged 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds as a rookie last season. He scored in double figures 22 times in the shortened 66-game season. Morris is expected to back up newly acquired Luis Scola this season.

On Wednesday, the club waived former Arizona State standout forward Ike Diogu and forward-centre Solomon Jones. The moves left the Suns' roster at 15.
