TORONTO -- The Toronto Raptors have signed guard Dwight Buycks.

Buycks is expected to be the backup point guard behind Kyle Lowry, filling a spot general manager Masai Ujiri said was still on the Raptors' off-season wish list.

The 24-year-old Las Vegas native averaged a team-best 18.0 points a game last season for Gravelines in the French Pro A league. Buycks previously averaged 15.1 points for Tulsa in the NBA Development League in 2011-12.

Upon introducing power forward Tyler Hansbrough, Ujiri said Monday he had a veterans minimum salary exception to use and wanted to add a backup guard. He also acknowledged there was more to do before the start of the season.

"I think shooting is a big part of the game," he said. "I think shooting is a big part of the game that we need to work on."

Buycks shot 49.7 per cent during his season in the NBA D-League.
