Capital Punishment:  Jordan Eberle scored twice and Connor McDavid added two assists as the Edmonton Oilers routed the Ottawa Senators 7-2 last night. McDavid now has five points in the two games since his return. In Toronto, the Leafs gave head coach Mike Babcock a victory in his 1,000th career game with a 3-2 shootout decision over the New Jersey Devils. And in Vancouver, Joonas Korpisalo made 37 saves and the Blue Jackets grabbed a 2-1 shootout win over the Canucks.

Heating Up:  Kyle Lowry drained seven three-pointers and led the way with 30 points as the Toronto Raptors beat the Portland Trail Blazers 110-103. At 34-16, the Raptors have achieved the best 50-game start in franchise history and have won 13 of their past 14. They are now off until Monday when they face the Pistons in Detroit.

Eyes on Newton:  As the countdown continues to Sunday's championship game between Carolina and Denver, controversial Panthers star Cam Newton will have the ultimate opportunity to silence his critics. Wants and Needs:  At the Blue Jays' season ticket holder event last night, team president and CEO Mark Shapiro confirmed that the club has reached out to both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion about their desire to keep the sluggers in Toronto beyond this season. He also said that the team is trying to get a multi-year deal done with Josh Donaldson ahead of the MVP's salary arbitration hearing next week.
