Burning Oil

Potential unrestricted free agents Milan Lucic and Jason Demers are in Edmonton to hear recruitment pitches from the Oilers, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.

Lucic has been mentioned among a few teams, including his hometown Vancouver Canucks and his former Boston Bruins, although Edmonton appears to have emerged as a front runner for the power forward’s service.

The 28-year-old scored 20 goals and 55 points in 81 games with the Los Angeles Kings this past season - the final year of a three-year, $18 million deal signed with the Bruins in 2013.

Demers, also 28, has spent the entirety of his seven-year NHL career in the Western Conference with the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars.

He scored seven goals and 23 points in 62 regular-season contests and appeared in 13 playoff games for the Stars this past season.

Demers is coming off a two-year deal worth $6.8 million.

The Way Out?

Kevin Shattenkirk does not think he will be a member of the St. Louis Blues to begin the 2016-17 season, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

After plenty of speculation and dead-end negotiations, Rutherford says Shattenkirk expects to be traded out of The Show Me State.

Shattenkirk has spent the last six seasons with the Blues. In 72 games this past season he finished 19th in scoring by defenceman with 44 points.

Drafted 14th overall in the 2007 by the Colorado Avalanche, the New York native is entering the final year of a four-year, $17 million deal signed with the Blues in 2013.

Open Season

Despite not being traded at the draft this past Friday, Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray is still listening to offers on defenceman Cam Fowler, according to the Orange County Register's Eric Stephens.

The Ducks have seven defenceman under contract for next season and the re-signing of Sami Vatanen has created a log jam on defence for Anaheim.

The 24-year-old has two years left on a five-year, $20 million deal signed in 2013. Fowler scored five goals and 28 points in 69 games this past season.

Fowler has played his entire six-year career with the Ducks, notching 178 points in 414 games.
