MANKATO, Minnesota (Ticker) - New Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress will have his first-round pick when training camp begins on Friday.
The Vikings on Thursday agreed to terms with linebacker Chad Greenway on a five-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The 17th overall pick in the draft, Greenway will compete against Dontarrious Thomas for the starting weakside linebacker spot.
New Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin comes from Tampa Bay and will utilize the Cover-2 defense, which places a premium on cover linebackers.
The 6-foot-2 1/2, 242-pound Greenway started 36 games in his last three seasons at Iowa. Last year, he recorded 156 tackles and two sacks with eight pass breakups and one interception for the Hawkeyes.
