Metairie, LA (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran cornerback Mike McKenzie, the team announced Monday.
McKenzie will take the roster spot vacated by cornerback Leigh Torrence, who went on the injured reserve list with a shoulder injury.
The Saints released the 10-year veteran McKenzie back in March, after he played in just seven games in 2008 because of a fractured right patella. He also missed the first two games of that season while recovering from a knee injury that ended his 2007 campaign.
McKenzie played five seasons with the Saints (2004-08) after going to New Orleans in a trade with Green Bay in October 2004. The 33-year-old began his career with the Packers after being taken in the third round of the 1999 draft.
In 133 career games (129 starts), McKenzie has accumulated 27 interceptions, 141 passes defensed and 516 tackles.
