NEW YORK -- Former NFL player Troy Vincent has been promoted to executive vice-president of football operations for the league.

Commissioner Roger Goodell also appointed Dave Gardi to senior vice-president of football operations.

The moves were announced Wednesday.

Vincent, a cornerback, was a first-round draft choice in 1992 and played 15 seasons for the Dolphins, Eagles, Bills and Redskins. He was president of the players' union from 2004-08, and was hired by the league office in 2010.

In his new job, Vincent's areas of responsibility will include officiating and on-field discipline. He will have a non-voting spot on the competition committee.
