In a recent interview, Mike Holmgren acknowledged he probably would have been better off coaching the Cleveland Browns than serving as the team's President, but then-owner Randy Lerner was against that idea.

"I really just should have coached the team, but [Lerner] didn't want me to," Holmgren told TheMMQB.com.

After making three Super Bowl appearances in 17 years coaching the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, Holmgren failed to find any success as the Browns' President in his relatively short stint with the team.

Hired ahead of the 2010 season, Holmgren retained then-head coach Eric Mangini for a season before firing him and replacing him with Pat Shurmer.

Holmgren went on to tell TheMMQB that at the time of Shurmer's hiring, he felt he wasn't ready to coach again.

Holmgren stepped down midway through the 2012 season, his third with the team, after an ownership change.
