The NFL could be softening its stance on marijuana, and players caught using the drug.

According to report from ESPN, the league's new drug policy will significantly increase the threshold for a positive marijuana test as well as reduce punishments for violations involving the drug.

ESPN reported a source reporting the policy was outdated and the Players Association wants to research the drug's medicinal use.
