Making a move just prior to the NFL's 4pm et trade deadline, the New England Patriots acquired cornerback Aqib Talib from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Patriots who sent a 2013 fourth round pick to the Bucs in the deal, also received a 2013 seventh-round pick.

The 20th overall pick in 2008, Talib was in his fifth season with Tampa Bay, having totaled 18 interceptions in his 48 game career.

He has one year remaining on his contract and will be eligible to return November 18th when he completes a four-game suspension he received for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Talib is expected to bolster a Patriots pass defence that ranks 30th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game.
