BEREA, Ohio -- Browns general manager Tom Heckert says he would be deeply disappointed if he's let go at the end of this season.

With the Browns still in playoff contention with three games left, Heckert does not know if he'll be brought back by new Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner. Heckert, who was hired by former president Mike Holmgren, expects to learn his fate "right away" after the season. If he's fired, Heckert is confident he's "going to get a shot somewhere else."

Heckert's current contract includes control of the 53-man roster. He indicated it would be difficult for him to give that up, but it's not "the end-all."

Heckert praised Browns coach Pat Shurmur, whose future is also uncertain. Heckert said the doubt about next season has been hard on his family and young scouting staff.
