TORONTO - The NHL on Monday met with the International Ice Hockey Federation and the NHL Players' Association regarding future Olympic participation but it doesn't appear any progress was made.

"Status quo," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Monday of the Olympic meeting.

The NHL's participation in South Korea for the 2018 Olympics remains in doubt as long as the International Olympic Commission stands by its desire to curb back the costs it has covered in past Games that NHL players have played in such as for travel and insurance.

There is no official deadline in place but most agree all sides have until the New Year at the latest to iron out their differences otherwise there may not be NHL players in the Olympics for the first time since 1994.
