The NHL Play of the Year showdown resumes today with a pair of finishing flips.

The sixth match-up of the Round of 32 pits POY perennial Sidney Crosby against Mattias Ekholm as both break in alone and shine.

Crosby’s move was the type of finish we’ve come to expect out of one of the game’s most electric players.

Sid the Kid stepped over the blue line and picked up speed heading into the New Jersey zone before inside-outing defenceman Andy Greene. He then leans into a backhander, flipping the puck from the face-off circle directly into the top shelf behind Cory Schneider.

Ekholm may lack Crosby’s star-power, but it doesn’t dim the incredible determination he displayed.

The 24-year-old defender rushed into the Montreal Canadiens zone, seeing an opening between three defenders. Despite drawing a hook from Tomas Plekanec and falling to the ice, the young Swede managed to get under a backhander and flip it just over Carey Price’s shoulder.
