Columbus, Ohio became the centre of the hockey universe as National Hockey League club executives, coaches, scouts and the game's top prospects gathered on the Nationwide Arena floor for the 45th edition of the NHL Entry Draft.

Patrick Kane of the London Knights was selected first overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Philadelphia Flyers selected James van Riemsdyk of the U.S. junior development team with their second pick while the Phoenix Coyotes took Kyle Turris of the Burnaby, B.C., Jr. A team third overall.
