Top 30 Draft Prospects - Honourable Mentions

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie has put together a list of the top 30 prospects to look out for, plus some honourable mentions who could easily end up in the 20-30 range on draft day. Also included are rankings provided by the International Scouting Service (ISS), and NHL Central Scouting (NHLCS). The ISS publishes two lists - skaters and goaltenders. The NHLSC publishes four lists - North American skaters and goalies, and European skaters and goalies. Numbers listed here represent each players spot on each respective listing. An (e) after the ranking number indicates a European list, and a (g) indicates a goaltender list.

Top 30: Number 1 to 15 | Top 30: Number 16 to 30 | Honourable Mentions

ISS: 21

Patrik Berglund, C, Vasteras
Born: 6/22/88 Ht: 6-3 Wt: 187 Shoots: L
From NHL Central Scouting - A good skater who could use some first-step quickness...moves well for his size...creative, cool playmaker with a good understanding of the game...fine overall skill level...has smooth hands...good, quick wrist shot...protects the puck well with his long reach...will improve overall game when he gets more strength.
From ISS: His performance at the 2006 IIHF World U18 Championship in Sweden, has us convinced that this kid is special. He took the puck hard to the net and was strong enough to win all of the little battles while becoming an offensive force on every shift. Opponents had a difficult time handling him, he has a quick stick that make him tough to play.
From TSN: Played in the 2004 Mac's Midget Tournament...split time in 05-06 with Vasteras (Jr.) and in the second division of the SE league (3-1, -4 in 21 games)...won the 'TV puck' award for top player in an elite Swedish Amateur hockey tournament. that players such as Mats Sundin, Marcus Naslund, Martin Samuelsson and Fredrik Sjostrom has won before...was only 6th in the scoring race, yet won the tournament title - it is the most important tournament in Sweden for players under 16...played for Sweden at 2006 Under 18's...started season with Vasteras Jr. but was quickly promoted to the Senior team.

ISS: 23

Cory Emmerton, C, Kingston
Born: 6/1/88 Ht: 5-11 Wt: 181 Shoots: L
From NHL Central Scouting - Sees the puck well and moves the puck effectively through traffic...can be elusive but can also take the puck to the net while fighting through checks...plays point on the power play and is also very effective at handling the puck...an aggressive forechecker who finishes his check at every opportunity...has a hard, accurate shot.
From ISS: A great two way forward coming into this year that can shut down the opponents top line while chipping in offensively. That assessment was partially correct in that he is very adept on the defensive side of the puck but he also went out and produced 90 points on a good but not great Kingston Frontenacs team that had other offensive catalysts. He seems to be a step ahead with his vision/decision making which gives him a good passing game.
From TSN: Product of the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs AAA ...scored 35 goals with St. Thomas Jr. B in 2003/04...5th round pick (89th overall) by the Frontenacs...had 6 points at the U-17 tournament (3-3)...voted the smartest player in the OHL...was one of nine returning players on the U-18 that won gold at the Jr. World Cup last August...finished third in voting for the OHL's Most Sportsmanlike Player...played in the Top Prospects showcase, the ADT Canada-Russia challenge and, the OHL all-star game...plays point on PP...voted to 2004-05 OHL All Scholastic team.

ISS: 17

Ondrej Fiala, C, Everett
Born: 11/4/87 Ht: 6-1 Wt: 183 Shoots: L
From NHL Central Scouting -Turns well in all directions with deceptive speed to break away from traffic...pays attention to defence with good zone coverage...very good two-way player who is highly skilled with the puck and can pass on the forehand and backhand...has good understanding of the game with great hockey sense and creativity.
From ISS: Has good size and is skilled offensively with a solid skating stride. He consistently demonstrates positive work habits and competes hard along the boards. He has excellent scoring instincts and tremendous puck-handling skills. Has soft, quick hands and is very dangerous around the net. Humble kid and very coachable.
From TSN: Silvertips 1st round selection (30th overall) in the 2005 CHL Import Draft...2006 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game -Team Orr...2005-06
