All For One

After much anticipation, the Colorado Avalanche won the 2013 NHL Draft Lottery, leapfrogging the Florida Panthers for the right to pick first in this summer's draft.

For the first time since the inception of the Draft Lottery in 1995, all 14 non-playoff teams had a chance at winning the first overall pick. In the end, it didn't matter much as the Avalanche only had to move up one position to take the top selection and drop Florida from first to second overall. The Avalanche entered the lottery with an 18.8 percent chance at winning after posting the worst record in the Western Conference at 16-25-7 for 39 points this season.

The Avalanche have never picked first in the draft. The franchise did however select first overall for three straight years from 1989-1991 when the team was still based in Quebec City and known as the Nordiques.

Colorado's win also breaks a streak of three straight years with the first overall selection for the Edmonton Oilers.
