Randy Carlyle intimated that Jake Gardiner might be a possibility to play on Saturday against Montreal. "We told him, if we have a chance for you to play Saturday, you’re going to have to get on the ice today," said Carlyle. "He's come a long way and he's very, very close." Out with a concussion since December 8th, Gardiner skated for 15 minutes on Tuesday morning. Despite the optimism, a return next week is more likely. - TSN

James van Riemsdyk left practice Tuesday with a bruised foot. He blocked a shot and left the ice hobbling, but X-rays revealed no fracture. No timeline was set on his status, but he was seen walking in the Leafs dressing room without obvious discomfort. - TSN

Colton Orr dislocated his finger during the Tuesday workout. His status also remains uncertain. - TSN

Cody Franson joined the Leafs on the ice at training camp for the first time Tuesday after completing medicals on Monday. Last year proved real disappointing for Franson as he played in just 57 games. "I try and learn from my mistakes that I made last year," said Franson. "I'm not taking anything for granted anymore. I might have let my foot off the gas a little bit last year. But I'm trying to make sure that doesn't happen again this year." - TSN

Carlyle is anticipating a series of difficult decisions by noon Friday when NHL rosters must be set. "I would say that this is the most difficult decision process that I've ever been presented with," he said, noting the six-day training camp and bloated 31-man roster. "Be it contracts, be if free agent signings, players that require waivers to go down. There’s a whole bunch of components that fit into the decision-making process, but ultimately we’re going to try and pick the players that are going to give us the best chance to win." - TSN

James Reimer would seem the likely starter for the opener in Montreal, but sticking to normal superstitions, Carlyle declined to reveal his choice. - TSN
