WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Washington Capitals are out to wreak havoc on the hockey media.
The Capitals on Tuesday signed center Petr Sykora, whose namesake has established himself as a proven NHL scorer, to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
A third-round pick of Detroit in 1997, Sykora was traded to Nashville in July 1998 and appeared in two games with the Predators the following season. After spending part of the 1999-00 campaign with Milwaukee of the International Hockey League, the Czech Republic native returned to his homeland, where he has collected 117 goals and 90 assists over the last 5 1/2 seasons with Pardubice of the Czech Republic Extraleague.
The younger brother of former NHL defenseman Michal Sykora, the 26-year-old was acquired by Washington in June 2002.
Petr Sykora shares his name with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim right wing, who has recorded six consecutive 20-goal seasons and helped the New Jersey Devils to the Stanley Cup championship in 2000.
