Maple Leafs acquire Pohl from Blues

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that the club has acquired forward John Pohl from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations.

Pohl, 26, has spent the past three seasons playing for Worcester of the American Hockey League. In 2002-03 with the club, he ranked fourth among AHL rookies in goals (26) and points (58). He finished first on the team that year in goals, second in assists (32-tie) and second in points. He made his NHL debut in 2003-04 playing one game for St. Louis on November 1 vs. Chicago.

Pohl played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. In 2001-02, he led the nation in assists (52) and points (79) and was named to the WCHA First All-Star Team. He guided the club to the national championship that season collecting three points (one goal, two assists) in the final versus Maine.

The native of Rochester, Minnesota represented the United States at the 2003 World Championships and collected seven points (three goals, four assists). He led the team in assists (tie) and points. He was originally St. Louis' eighth choice, 255th overall in the 1998 Entry Draft.
