NEW YORK (CP) - Pittsburgh Penguins forward Andre Roy has been suspended two games for making what the NHL deemed were inappropriate gestures at an opposing player.
The Penguins tough guy directed several throat-slashing gestures towards Washington Capitals forward Robin Gomez after the second of their two fights during a pre-season game on September 25.
Roy will miss the first two games of the NHL season and forfeit $10,204 US in salary.
Pittsburgh signed Roy, 30, to a three-year, $3 million contract in August, in large part to offer on-ice protection for Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby.
Roy has registered 52 points and 734 penalty minutes over an eight-year career with Tampa Bay, Ottawa and Boston.
