CALGARY (CP) - Quebec City will remain as the co-host of the 2008 world hockey championship.
Hockey Canada made the announcement Wednesday night, following the ratification of the host agreement by Quebec City's council, which had originally been signed in April 2003, and approval of the operational and financial plans for the 2008 tournament.
Quebec City had been named the co-host of the 2008 world hockey championship with Halifax, but planning for the event had been plagued by problems. That prompted concern Hockey Canada might be forced to find another co-host for the event.
But Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson said Wednesday that Quebec City will remain as the tournament co-host.
''Hockey Canada is very pleased with the developments in Quebec City over the past week,'' Nicholson said in a statement. ''Hockey Canada and the Championship Steering Committee are looking forward to working with Quebec City in partnership with Halifax, and finalizing operational and financial plans as soon as possible.''
