The Philadelphia Flyers received some good news Saturday as forward Patrick Thoresen was released from Hospital.
Thoresen was taken to a Washington area hospital after being hit in the groin by a shot during the Flyers loss to the Capitals on Friday.
"My groin area is sore and swollen," Thoresen said in statement. "I can't really walk properly right now. It hurts."
The team originally feared that the injury was serious enough that Thoresen might have had to undergo surgery to have a testical removed.
General Manager Paul Holmgren told TSN that the winger was going to be fine and may even be in the lineup Sunday for Game 2 against the Caps.
"We're thankful it's not more serious than it is. I'm sure he's sore, but I wouldn't be surprised if he played tomorrow."
Thoresen blocked Mike Green's shot with about 6 1/2 minutes left in the game, then dropped to the ice, writhing in pain. Moments later, Washington scored to tie the game 4-4.
"Obviously, I'd have liked to see a whistle," Flyers coach John Stevens said.
"I know in the past there have been players that have laid there and rolled around trying to get a stoppage in play when they've just been hit on the shin," Holmgren told the CANADIAN PRESS. "It's a tough call. I didn't have a problem with it last night and, thinking about it, I still don't have a problem. The ref has to make a judgment call in a split second, and they made the call they made. Obviously it cost us a goal. I don't believe that's the reason we lost the game."
