The most sought after free agent prospect not playing in the National Hockey League made a stop in Denver on Thursday, as Fabian Brunnstrom was in town to talk to Detroit general manager Ken Holland prior to the Red Wings' playoff game against the Colorado Avalanche.
It is the second of three stops for Brunnstrom. After discussions with the Red Wings and Dallas Stars, the young Swedish forward is expected to be in Montreal on Saturday morning where Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey will make a pitch.
"It's a great honour for me, and it's so much fun," Brunnstrom told TSN on Thursday. "I've never been to North America. It was my first NHL game yesterday watching the Dallas Stars, and today watching the Reds Wings and Avalanche - it's very fun."
At the moment, it appears Brunnstrom may limit his North American tour to the Stars, Red Wings and Canadiens. The Toronto Maple Leafs are still trying to arrange some time with him, as well as the Anaheim Ducks and a number of other NHL teams.
Brunnstrom, 23, has gathered interest from as many as 20 NHL teams over the last few months.
The 6-foot-1, 203-pound winger played for Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League this season, scoring nine goals and 37 points in 54 games. In 41 games with Boras in Sweden's second-tier league last season, he potted 37 goals and 73 points in just 41 games.
Brunnstrom, a late-bloomer who elevated his play after going undrafted in 2003, could command Top 5 Entry Draft-level money with the winning suitor.
"I don't know if I'm ready for the National Hockey League, but I think I'm an offensive-type player and I try to skate a lot," he told TSN on Thursday.
