The Florida Panthers announced Friday that Jacques Martin has reached an agreement to remain with the team as the club's general manager through the 2011-2012 season.

Martin, 55, joined the organization in May of 2004 as the club's head coach before replacing Mike Keenan as general manager and assuming both roles in 2006.

Since taking over the reigns as general manager, Martin has made several deals, including the acquistion of goaltender Tomas Vokoun and signing centre Stephen Weiss, right wing Nathan Horton and defenceman Bryan Allen to long term contract extensions.

The club announced last month that Martin will not be behind the bench for the team next season, and has begun searching for a new head coach.

The Panthers went 38-35-9 this season, finishing in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with 85 points. In his three seasons as coach, Martin had a record of 110-100-36.

He owns a career record of 517-406-119-56 in 14 seasons as coach of the Panthers, Senators and Blues. The 1998-99 coach of the year, Martin led the Senators to their first Presidents' Trophy in 2002-03, when they reached the Eastern Conference finals for the first time. There they fell to the New Jersey Devils in seven games.
