One day after placing him on waivers, the Tampa Bay Lightning have bought out the contract of goaltender Marc Denis.
It's a disappointing end for Denis in Tampa Bay as he was expected to fill the void left by Nikolai Khabibulin, who left as a free agent after winning the Stanley Cup in 2004. But in his two years there, he only managed 18 wins in 54 appearances.
Denis was acquired by the Lightning from the Columbus Blue Jackets for winger Fredrik Modin and goaltender Fredrik Norrena in the summer of 2006 and signed a new three-year deal.
But in his first season, he finished below .500 with a record of 17-18-2 and a save precentage of .883. Last season, he was placed on waivers and demoted to Norfolk of the American Hockey League. He won one game in ten games.
Denis was drafted in the first round by the Colorado Avalanche in 1995 and went on to be named the best goaltender in the QMJHL during his final year there. But in 348 games in the NHL, he has a less-than-stellar record of 112 wins, 179 losses and 31 ties.
