Panthers buy out Stumpel's contract

The Florida Panthers bought out the remaining year of Jozef Stumpel's contract on Friday, making the veteran centre an unrestricted free agent.

Stumpel, 35, recorded 20 points in 52 games with the Panthers last season. In three seasons with Florida, he played in 199 games and scored 129 points.

Stumpel was entering the last season of a two-year contract extension paid him $2.25 million.

A second-round pick of the Boston Bruins in 1991, the native of Czechoslovakia has 196 goals and 677 points in 957 games with the Bruins, Panthers and Los Angeles Kings.
