Nolan Baumgartner has signed a one year, two-way deal with the Vancouver Canucks. The club also signed AHL forward Alexandre Bolduc.
"He's excited. It's a one-year deal, and he's excited to get back to Vancouver, and he's excited to have a chance again to prove he can play in the NHL," Roy told the Team 1040 in Vancouver.
Baumgartner played 87 games over three seasons with the Canucks, including 34 points in the 2005-06 season, before signing a free agent contract with Philadelphia after the season. That experience was a definite factor in Baumgartner signing with the Canucks.
"I think it's the familiarity with the city, both with Vancouver and Winnipeg, " said Roy. "I think he's had some good years in both places, and actually, his best year in the NHL was in Vancouver when he led the defense in scoring there a few years ago."
Baumgartner was placed on waivers by the Flyers in October of 2006, and was later claimed by the Dallas Stars.
Baumgartner has spent the majority of the past two seasons in the AHL.
Bolduc, 23, had a career season in 2007-08 with the AHL's Manitoba Moose. The Montreal, PQ native played 70 games and scored career highs in goals (18), assists (19), and points (37).
In six Calder Cup playoff games last year, Bolduc scored one goal. Bolduc has appeared in 131 games with the Moose over three seasons recording 56 points (25-31-56) and 163 penalty minutes.
