Jagr to take time deciding future, won't be back in New York

Jaromir Jagr may follow Mats Sundin's lead and intends on taking his time before deciding what direction his playing future is headed.

Jagr's agent Pat Brisson is talking with a number of teams, including Russian teams eager to sign the NHL superstar.

The Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins are considered the frontrunners with all three NHL teams expressing interest in signing Jagr. However, the possibility Jagr returns to the Rangers is beginning to look remote.

In a conference call to announce the signing of forward Markus Naslund, Rangers GM Glen Sather confirmed that Jagr is no longer in the Rangers' plans.

"I talked to Jaromir today and waited for a call for the last couple of days and nothing happened, so we decided they were going to move on."

"I gave him the information that we are going to move on at this time. I couldn't wait any longer."

Sather, however, refused to completely shut the door on Jagr's return.

"If things don't work for him in Russia, he can call us back and we can see what we can do," the GM added.

Interest in Jagr is primarily based on a one year deal that could exceed 7 million dollars, however the belief is these teams could be convinced to accept a two year deal if pushed.

The problem with the second year is Jagr's age.

If the 36-year old was to retire, return to Europe, or not fulfill his contract, the NHL team he signs with would take the full cap hit for the remainder of the agreement.

So far, Brisson has been unable to get Jagr to commit and says he has no way of knowing whether a decision is coming tomorrow, next week, or next month.
