The Buffalo Sabres re-signed goaltender Ryan Miller to a five-year, $31.25 million contract extension on Friday.

Entering the final year of his current contract this season, Miller will now remain the club's franchise netminder through the 2013-2014 season.

He will earn $3.5 million next season.

"He's established himself as one of the top young goaltenders," general manager Darcy Regier told the CANADIAN PRESS. "When you're talking about conference finals, playoff wins, what he's done in the playoffs, what he's done in his career . when you look at his history, it's not about potential. This is a goaltender that we believe in."

Miller, 28, appeared in 76 games last season, posting a record of 36-27-10 with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. He also earned his 100th career victory on February 10 against Florida.

Entering his sixth pro season, Miller has appeared in 205 regular-season games with a mark of 112-68-19, recorded seven shutouts, a 2.69 GAA and a .908 save percentage.

The 2001 Hobey Baker Award winner from Michigan State was originally selected by Buffalo in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Draft.
