The Anaheim Ducks placed veteran defenceman Mathieu Schneider on waivers Tuesday.

The Ducks had been reported to be interested in moving the 39-year-old to the Los Angeles Kings in an attempt to get below the NHL's salary cap.

A move seemed inevitable due to a surplus blueliners in Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Kent Huskins, Sean O'Donnell, Francois Beauchemin and Schneider on the roster and Teemu Selanne still needing to be signed.

Schneider played in 65 games during the regular season in 2007/08, scoring 12 goals and 27 assists with a plus-22 rating. He took part in all six of the Ducks' playoff games scoring one goal with a minus-3.

Over his career, Schneider has played 1,197 regular season games for seven teams - Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and Ducks - and has piled up 702 points (212 goals and 490 assists).
