Sources tell TSN that Los Angeles King defenceman Jack Johnson is likely to miss as much as three months as a result of what appeared to be an arm injury suffered in Sunday night's loss to the San Jose Sharks.

The injury occurred in the first period although Johnson did go out for one shift in the second before leaving the game.

Sources tell TSN Johnson is expected to undergo shoulder surgery later this week.

To fill the roster spot, the Kings claimed defenseman Kyle Quincey in a waiver deal from the Red Wings. Quincey has just one goal in 13 career games, all with Detroit, from 2005-08.

The 21-year-old played in 74 games in 2007/08 but missed the last seven with a fractured right foot. Johnson scored three goals with eight assists and was minus-19 for the Kings last season.

The Kings acquired Johnson along with Oleg Tverdovsky from the Hurricanes for Tim Gleason and Eric Belanger in September of 2006.

He was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round, 3rd overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
