Brian Burke has wasted little time making his first move as President and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Sources tell TSN Burke has requested permission from the Anaheim Ducks to speak to Dave Nonis about a management position in Toronto.

A Vancouver native, Nonis served as senior vice president and director of hockey operations with the Canucks under Burke for six seasons prior to becoming general manager.  He joined the Ducks as a senior advisor over the summer after being replaced by Mike Gillis.

Prior to joining the Canucks, he served as the NHL's manager of hockey operations for four seasons. He helped finalize sections of the league's 1995 collective bargaining agreement and also worked with the league's arbitration team.
