Kovalev, Thornton named All-Star team captains

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Montreal Canadiens forward Alexei Kovalev and San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton have been selected as captains for their respective squads at the NHL All-Star Game.

Kovalev will captain the Eastern Conference in his home arena for Sunday's All-Star Game at the Bell Centre in Montreal. He was chosen as a starter in fan balloting and is making his third All-Star Game appearance.

Thornton, seventh in the NHL with 55 points, will captain the Western Conference on Sunday. He was picked as a reserve for this year's squad and will play in his sixth consecutive All-Star Game.
