The Dallas Stars assigned forward Fabian Brunnstrom to the AHL's Manitoba Moose on Tuesday, a quick fall from grace for a player who scored a hat trick in his first NHL game earlier this season.
The 23-year-old rookie had gained plenty of attention last season while he was playing in Europe, with several teams expressing interest in his services - including the Vancouver Canucks.
Brunnstrom signed an entry level contract with the Stars in May of 2008.
He had 10 goals and 4 assists and was a minus-8 in 31 games for the Stars this season.
Brunnstrom was only the third player in NHL history to score three goals in his NHL debut. Alex Smart of the Montreal Canadiens achieved the feat in 1943, and Real Cloutier of the Quebec Nordiques did it in 1979.
